The Coffee and a Catfish Story

The Coffee and a Catfish Story

Hi there! I'm Mae: the founder, planner, designer, printer, quality checker, gift wrapper, social media manager, post office runner, stock taker, email sender, accountant and everything else here at Coffee and a CatfishMy happy gifting business is my little escapism from the rest of the world - and let me tell you why..

In 2020, I began my own recovery journey from mental illness. Although professional help was great at treating my conditions long term, I couldn't help but notice that a lot of the resources that allowed me to manage the intense emotions I was feeling were very clinical, impersonal and, well.. boring!

If I'm supposed to be shifting my mindset in a positive direction, reading walls of text isn't going to motivate me. Instead of leaflets outlining the prolonged risk of cortisol, give me fidget toys I can squeeze during a panic attack. Swap diagrams of the human brain for playful prints reminding me how to dissipate the pent up anger that accompanies my depression.

At Coffee and a Catfish, you won't find recommendations for a hot bath and a cup of tea. Instead, you'll simply find gifts and resources that are designed and created with love for someone who may be struggling or need a little boost, by someone who's been there.

We’re helping to transform your mental health recovery into the empowering journey you deserve it to be. By creating tools and gifts that have helped me to cope, we’re aiming to make recovery feel like an adventure - not a chore. Everything you’ll find here is created to offer support to those who may be struggling, to increase self love and help people to cope with symptoms that regularly accompany many mental health concerns. If you're looking for a way to improve your own mental health, or someone else's, we can help!

Remember you matter, and your mental health is so important! If you need to talk to someone, samaritans phone number is 116 123. No one should ever go through mental illness alone.
